Get partying, get paddling!

Thought that would get you reading! Yes, this weekend it’s the Paddle Round The Pier Festival on Hove lawns. Enjoying a weekend in Brighton, you can try  just about every watersport on the ocean, or wander round all the stands and stalls, or just sunbathe back on the lawns.

It’s all free, it’s all for charity and by the look of the website, it’s all good! And we’re promised good weather, too! Bring it on!

Kemp Town gets its ballroom back!

Dance the night away

Dance the night away

Yes, what would the gay capital of the UK be without a ballroom? And those of us who miss a night at the Hanbury Ballrooms can dust off dancing shoes, because it’s re-opening!

Now known as the Brighton Ballrooms, it’s getting a massive redecoration and will soon also become a luxury supper club, very swish.

There may not be any ballroom dancing going on on opening night (Friday 2nd June), but the future line-ups guarantee a party for everyone.

BRIGHTON BALLROOMS: READY TO PARTY

Brighton does Bike Week

Picture 1Free food, free spinning classes, free bike check-ups, and even a free screening of a classic silent comedy: it must be bike week! Take your trusty, or rusty steed along to any of these events and you’re sure to have a great time.

Eminem backs gay marriage!

Eminem1

Something to say?

Pilliared rapper Eminem is hardly the darling of the LGBT community. It’s pretty much been “bitch this, bitch dat” since the beginning, and as for his views on homosexuality, they really do belong in a cupboard, buried deep under the sea.

But, as his latest interview reveals, it’s turnaround time. Yes, it’s way too late, and yes the damage has long since been done, but he’s changed tack – and hair colour.

TAKEPART: Brighton’s own sports fest

Picture 1If you think Preston Park is only good for partying in, then head there this weekend for a surprise. It’s hosting the TAKEPART International Festival of Sport. Loads of demonstrations, even a mobile spa/swimming pool contraption to check out. The emphasis is on fun rather then Olympic performances, so pop along and enjoy!

Watch out for the Brighton Lesbian and Gay Sports Society (BLAGSS), who are taking part. And If you are interested in joining, visit their website and contact David Tennant or Tim Rose.

What’s going on in Brighton?

No surprise, as we are the entertainment capital of the south coast, there is loads to do.

Yes the sun is shining and yes it’s tan time, but if you are just down for the weekend why not stick your head up from the beach and have a look around – there’s always something happening!

Handbags at dawn

Brighton's LGBT Awards

Brighton's LGBT Awards

This month is handbag month – well if you are coming for shopping in Brighton, every month is handbag month. The difference this time is that these handbags are gold, and are given out to the best bars, restaurants, and hotels on the gay scene.

Everyone can vote for their favourite spot, even for their top barman or barmaid just follow the link below.

The winners will be announced at a charity celebration at the Hilton Metropole Hotel on Sunday, June 20, with top acts from the town doing a turn. The hostess with the mostest will be Lola Lasagne, joined by firm favourites Drag With No Name, Maisie Trollette and Dave Lynn.

And the greatest thing, tickets for the event all raise money for charity. So far the Golden Handbag Awards has helped raise £100,000, and taken its place as the biggest fundraiser in the Brighton LGBT calendar.

Naked sunbathers’ hangout

Kit off!

Kit off!

It’s getting hot in here, summer has arrived, and for some of us daring folk it’s time to take of all our clothes. Without risking a caution, and without distracting the families and children from their shopping, you can let it all hang out, on Brighton beach.

Well, not Brighton Beach (central) but at a spot further east, toward the Marina on Brighton’s own nudist beach.

Black Rock Beach is a special place for naturists and residents, because it is open. There are no fences, no walls and very few social restrictions. In fact, it is so open, some happy sun worshipers can be seen from the regular beach.

Having visited – and not purely for research – I can tell you the place is perhaps too accessible; while there I saw an unsuspecting family walking back from Brighton Marina, straight through the nudist beach – oh, their faces!

Well, if you want to feel the wind through all your hair, let it drift in the sea, or just laze around as you tan all over, make a visit to Brighton’s Black Rock Beach – just get that sun cream on and leave your scruples at home.

Brighton’s best: the week in entertainment

Music to your ears

Music to your ears

Brighton is preparing itself for flambouyance and indulgence – as on most weekends – but this time it’s thanks to Brighton Fashion Week, which starts Monday.

Before that, we have Hove Champagne Festival, to help lubricate things a little, and there’s even a bit of live ’strictly ‘on in town.

Not to mention a performance of Abba’s greatest hits and the opening of Brighton’s newest Lesbian night, all finished off with a naked bike ride.

The Brighton LBGT scene has so much action to pick from. To help you make a better choice, just look here, and enjoy.
